Slice Definition is the first step of Scan to Plan workflow. This command creates thin slices from a point cloud which will be used to draw plans and elevations.

Requirements

Select one or several clouds and launch the command.

Select the slice creation Mode:

  • Quick slice mode is suitable to define one slice in X, Y or Z direction.

  • Advanced mode is suitable to define several slices in every possible directions.

Quick slice mode

  1. Select the slice Direction.

  2. Set the slice Thickness.

  3. Set the Resampling step according to the expected level of details.

  4. Click the slice position in the 3D scene: the slice content is automatically flattened and resampled to remove duplicated points.

  5. Optionally, modify the slice position using the pencil button (or CTRL+SPACE). You will edit the corresponding Limit Box.

  6. Next definitely validates the slice and opens the second step of the workflow: Extract Plans.

  7. Exit definitely validates the slice and quits the workflow. Note you will be able to resume the workflow later.

Advanced mode

  1. Select the slice(s) Direction.

  2. Choose where to create the slices, two methods are available:

    1. Regular to have slices with a regular step. You can change the Range to All over the selection or within a Custom range. Use Pass Through option to offset the slices.

    2. List of values to specify the exact position of the desired slice(s).

  3. Set the slices Thickness.

  4. Click on Insert slices to add them to the list of slices below.

  5. Optionally, repeat steps from 1 to 4 to add slices according to another direction.

  6. When the Slices list has been filled, you can visualize and edit them individually:

    1. Change their position and thickness thanks to the limit box.

    2. Optionally, rename them.

    3. When hovering over a slice, two buttons appear:

      1. A toggle to deactivate the limit box corresponding to the current slice to visualize the whole cloud.

      2. A cross to remove the slice.

    4. Show all planes displays all slices median planes. Click again to hide them.

  7. Set the Resampling step according to the expected level of details.

  8. Click on Compute to work out the slices. Slices are flattened and resampled to remove duplicated points.

  9. Once the computation is done, Reset button removes the slices (if they have not been validated by Next or Exit).

  10. Next definitely validates the slices and opens the second step of the workflow: Extract Plans.

  11. Exit definitely validates the slices and quits the workflow. Note you will be able to resume the workflow later.

Notes

  • Once a slice has been validated, the edition (such as renaming, limit box edition) is not possible.

  • Both modes are not compatible within the same workflow. Changing the mode will reset it.
