This command allows you to resample polylines by choosing the desired number of points.

Requirements

Select the polyline(s) to process and optionally the mesh to project onto and launch the command.

  1. Choose between the two methods to reduce the polyline:

    1. Select the option Define number of vertices to enter the new number of points (for information, the original number of points is given above).

    2. Select the option Optimize number of vertices in order to be sure that the deviation between the reduced polyline and the initial one will not be greater than the given value Max deviation. Click Compute value to compute and display a suitable value based on the selected polylines' size.

  2. Check Optimize vertices position if you want to get the polyline with the desired number of points located at the best position in order to reduce the standard deviation error.

  3. If you check the option Make right angles, define a threshold with the slider. Then, all angles between a min and a max value will be transformed into right angles. For example, set the threshold to 5. So, all angles between 85° and 95° will be transformed into right angles. Constrained angles will be displayed in red after the computation.

  4. Check Project on mesh to select or change the mesh to project polyline(s) onto.

  5. Click on Preview to start the operation.

  6. Once the operation is completed, the new polyline is displayed on the screen (in a dashed representation) and the Standard Deviation and Maximum deviation are displayed. These 2 values are computed using the position of the original polyline(s) and the computed one(s).
