BIM Inspect

BIM Inspect is a workflow which helps you to identify and report geometrical defects between a theoretical building and scanned data.

It is available through the Touch Mode.

Note that a touch device is not mandatory but will improve your user experience.

Preparation file

Loading the right BIM information from a file can be time-consuming, especially when doing analysis on the field.

The BIM Inspect workflow relies on loading a particular project, called "Preparation file", containing all the relevant BIM data ready to be used.

This way, the theoretical building can be imported (from IFC or RVT files) and prepared before the site intervention and reuse for all the future inspections.

It is recommended to fill this preparation file with a global model (necessary to register your scans) and the local parts that you are about to inspect.

Importing BIM files

See Import BIM Project for additional information on how to import BIM files.

Before starting the workflow, the following objects are imported from the selected preparation file:

  • All BIM objects, CAD surfaces and meshes (mandatory)

  • All UCS (optional)

Workflow steps

The workflow is subdivided into 9 steps:

  1. Select the global model.

  2. Load the scanned data either from FIELDWORX or from a local file (such as LGS, e57 or PTS files).

  3. Align model and scanned data.

  4. Clean unnecessary point cloud areas.

  5. Select the parts to inspect.

  6. Perform the inspection.

  7. Edit the inspection colors and define your own tolerance.

  8. Add notes for each identified defect. Each note can gather inspection views with deviation labels, photos and comments.

  9. Generate a pdf report and csv deviation tables.

At any step, you can leave the workflow and return to desktop interface where you will be able to continue the workflow later.

Workflow settings

Most of the workflow parameters are located directly in the corresponding step dialog.

Some additional parameters are located in the settings dialog. Refer to BIM Inspect Specific Settings.

Editing previous steps

Edition of previous steps is allowed. However, most of the time, all results linked to the steps following the edited one will be cleared.

Backward edition

For example, once an inspection has been computed in INSPECT > Parameters, loading a new scan in LOAD > Scan will clear the inspection.

The main exceptions are:

  • LOAD > BIM Model

  • INSPECT > BIM Model

  • INSPECT > Edit Colors
