Texture from Clouds

Use the colors from point clouds to add a texture to the mesh.

Requirements

Select the mesh to be colored and the cloud(s) containing the color information and launch the command.

  1. Optionally, set the Maximum distance: it defines a threshold above which the closest point of the cloud is rejected and will not be used for texturing the face.

  2. Set the Pixel Size, that is to say the texture resolution in document unit (=1/pixel density).

  3. Optionally, uncheck Optimize the mesh to texture the mesh without any reduction. The computation will be longer but the mesh topology won't be modified.

  4. Define a Default color: it will be applied to areas where no point of the cloud could be found within the threshold distance.

  5. In case of clouds with inspection and color, you can texture the mesh with the inspection colors thanks to the option Use inspection instead of color.

  6. If the input mesh is already textured, you can:

    1. either Preserve existing texturing to add textures where they were missing,

    2. or Update current texturing to replace the previous texturing (mandatory when the mesh is fully textured).

Notes

The created texture is static:

  • Any mesh faces modification, included using Optimize the mesh later, could either lead to inaccuracy or the texture lost.

  • Adjust Textures is only suitable to remove textures locally (before applying locally new ones).

  • Consequently, it is advised to compute the texture as a last improvement.
