Import BIM Project

This command allows to load BIM file content (refer to Import for compatible formats) or edit a BIM object content.

Most of the time, BIM files contains the full assembly of the object. With this command, you have the possibility to either load the full content or only a subpart of the file.

Requirements

No selection is required . Only one file can be imported at the same time.

  1. Change the layout of the tree used to display the sub-items of the BIM file.

    1. Level: display the elements according to the hierarchy of the file.

    2. Type: display the elements according to their type (e.g. Door, Slab, wall, etc)

  2. You have several ways to filter the tree.

    1. Filter by value: optionally, you can search for items to filter. The given string can be found either in components names or in their metadata.

    2. Filter by level: filter which levels are displayed in the tree.

    3. Filter by type: filter which IFC types are displayed in the tree.

  3. Tree view: it displays the BIM assembly as a tree structure.

    • Each item has three possible states depending on whether it has been loaded to the document or not:

      • images/download/attachments/191398819/CheckNormal.svg The item and all of its sub-items haven't been loaded to the document yet,

      • images/download/attachments/191398819/CheckSelected.svg The item and all its sub-items have been loaded to the document,

      • images/download/attachments/191398819/CheckTristate.svg Some sub-items haven't been loaded yet.

    • Loading/Unloading item can be done by clicking on the status icon, or from the tree view contextual menu on the selected item.

    • Loaded items can be selected through the scene. Actions on the selection is available through the contextual menu.

  4. Metadata: it displays a metadata view of the item currently selected. Information can be copied through the context menu.

  5. Settings:

    1. Check model orientation: activate this special mode to visualize and reverse item normals (normal orientation will affect algorithm results: refer to Exercise: Understand meshes orientation). You can define another color to help you to identify revert items. Use the contextual menu to reverse the orientation.

    2. Environment objects: choose to display or not the other objects in the scene.

Tips & Tricks

  • The created object can be duplicated and modified later thanks to edit. If the .ifc or .rvt file is missing from its original location, Update file path options will be available when editing the object. The object name must be the same.

    • If the file is in the same location as the project, you can Update from project.

    • If not, you can Browse files.

  • When clicking on a Tree view checkbox, use CTRL to load only the selected items.

Notes

Filtering by type is only available for IFC files.
